Food in fridge: good or bad

Most of the people have a question in mind whether they must refrigerate their food or not. Well, it is the famous line of Hamlet but it has its relevance in every sense. The topic has its relevance whenever it is pondered.

Refrigerating and freezing food for keeping it fresh and better is important as there are certain foods that cannot be kept outside. Meat, poultry, seafood and eggs are products must not be kept at room temperature for more than two hours. But still many people have issues with keeping their food in the fridge. Fear not, we have all the points handy for providing a good analysis of positive and negative impacts of keeping food in the refrigerator.

Why we should keep food in fridge

Cooling is the key- cooling has its importance in keeping food fresh and healthy. The growth of micro bacteria and organism harm food, making it unhealthy for eating. These microorganisms need favorable temperature for growing and low temperature of refrigerator helps in eliminating their growth. The growth of these bacteria is slowed down in the freeze.

For slowing natural ripening process of fruits- refrigeration of fruits leads to slowing the natural process of fruit ripening and keeping them fresh for longer time. The chemical process in fruits and plants that allow them to ripen also case them to rot in a longer period of time. However low temperature of fridge slows down this chemical process which dramatically slows down the ageing of veggies and fruits.

Why we should not refrigerate food

Well, everything has its set of good and bad aspects, and it applies of refrigeration of food as well. We all have the fridge in our house and are well aware of benefits of refrigeration but there are few negative aspects that need to be addressed here.

The cost of keeping- electricity cost is one of the biggest disadvantages of keeping the fridge in the home. Normally a fridge consumes one-sixth part of our total electricity consumption and this money can be easily used in buying fresh healthy food rather than keeping them in the fridge and eating their stale version.

Bacterial contamination- fridges are usually used for preventing bacterial growth but many times they become a hub for bacterial contamination and development. People usually overload their fridge and keep food items in it for the longer time. This habit gives easy access to bacteria for development.

Every technology and gadget have its benefits and limitations and for making the best use of any technology it is recommended to use them wisely.
